Description

“Contenir le vent 12-VI” (Enclose the Wind)
Ceramic sculpture and carbon black glaze, monogrammed. 2021.
11.4 x 9 x 3.1 in.

With her new series of sculptures “Contenir le vent”, Brigitte Marionneau’s pieces become sculptures, abstract, essential forms, totally black and opaque. Pure forms, built as in architecture, in stages.
Each piece is carefully polished to reach a velvety surface. The opaque carbon black is obtained by burning sawdust in a closed metal mold. The contrast of the flat areas, sometimes textured by grooves or sometimes smooth, allows the light to animate and enliven each sculpture.

About

At the age of 23, familiar with the foundations of Japanese culture and art, Brigitte Marionneau decided to train in raku ceramics with Camille Virot. Seven years later, she moved to the village of La Borne, the internationally renown crucible of contemporary stoneware in France and set up her own studio. Today, she walks in the footsteps of her elders from La Borne, such as Lerat, Yves Mohy and Joulia. In 2018, after 30 years in La Borne, she got herself back in movement, this time towards the peninsula of Guérande, in the south of Bretagne.
